Hi Friends!! Welcome back to another camping blog. In this blog post I'd like to share with you some tips and must have items for camping with your dog. We have a small dog named Tip. He's a chihuahua mix and is 11 years old. He goes camping with us all the time. Due to him having medical conditions we can not put him in a kennel but he enjoys going with his family better anyway.
We want him to be safe and protected while we are camping so we take extra precautions when he is with us.
We always make sure to have plenty of clean water and fresh food for him. He has medications he has to take and since he's a "special" dog, I have to make his food with his medications mixed in. I found these bowls to be the best for him and they stay in the camper at all times as they do not take up any space and are easy to carry when we go on hikes. We found these on Amazon here.
The next thing we use for him is a tie out stake for the campsite. We use one for while we are eating and just sitting around the site because let's face it who wants to hold a leash all day long? The kind we have is one that you need to use a rubber mallet to put it in the ground but there are ones that sort of screw in. We also use a 10 foot cable so he has plenty of space to roam (not that he does much roaming).
We also use a harness for him since he doesn't use a collar at home it's the best thing for him and keeps him from choking himself all day long. We use the simple kind because they are cooler for him and it's less hassle trying to get it on him every morning. I also like that there is two loops for the leash to go through just in case someone didn't clasp it together properly. This is the kind we have and love it and he doesn't seem to mind it as much as some of the others we've tried.
I also like the thinner leash due to him being a small dog we don't need the heavy duty ones.
I made Tip a bed myself so he always has a comfy place to lay down when he's tired of our shenanigans. We keep a kennel for him to curl up into when he's tired or if we are doing something that he can't come with us.
This crate is bigger than he needs but it gives him plenty of room to move around in and places to put his bowls while we are away. This one also folds down for easy storage.
We want our dog and your dog to enjoy the trip just as much as their people do. We also want the fur babies to be safe while camping in the heat or cold.
What kind of things do you bring for your fur babies? Let us know down in the comments below.
Until next time.....happy camping.
