Camping with your Dog

Hi Friends!!    Welcome back to another camping blog.  In this blog post I'd like to share with you some tips and must have items for camping with your dog.  We have a small dog named Tip.  He's a chihuahua mix and is 11 years old.  He goes camping with us all the time.  Due to him having medical conditions we can not put him in a kennel but he enjoys going with his family better anyway.

We want him to be safe and protected while we are camping so we take extra precautions when he is with us.

We always make sure to have plenty of clean water and fresh food for him.  He has medications he has to take and since he's a "special" dog, I have to make his food with his medications mixed in.  I found these bowls to be the best for him and they stay in the camper at all times as they do not take up any space and are easy to carry when we go on hikes.  We found these on Amazon here.

The next thing we use for him is a tie out stake for the campsite.  We use one for while we are eating and just sitting around the site because let's face it who wants to hold a leash all day long?  The kind we have is one that you need to use a rubber mallet to put it in the ground but there are ones that sort of screw in. We also use a 10 foot cable so he has plenty of space to roam (not that he does much roaming).

We also use a harness for him since he doesn't use a collar at home it's the best thing for him and keeps him from choking himself all day long.  We use the simple kind because they are cooler for him and it's less hassle trying to get it on him every morning.  I also like that there is two loops for the leash to go through just in case someone didn't clasp it together properly.  This is the kind we have and love it and he doesn't seem to mind it as much as some of the others we've tried.

I also like the thinner leash due to him being a small dog we don't need the heavy duty ones.

I made Tip a bed myself so he always has a comfy place to lay down when he's tired of our shenanigans.   We keep a kennel for him to curl up into when he's tired or if we are doing something that he can't come with us.

This is the crate we have

This crate is bigger than he needs but it gives him plenty of room to move around in and places to put his bowls while we are away.  This one also folds down for easy storage.

We want our dog and your dog to enjoy the trip just as much as their people do.  We also want the fur babies to be safe while camping in the heat or cold.

What kind of things do you bring for your fur babies?  Let us know down in the comments below.

Until next time.....happy camping.

Our Favorite Camping Games

Hi friends! Welcome back. I'd like to share a list of games we like to take with us when we go camping. These are also games that we like to play in our sticks and bricks as well so we have double sets of most of these.

First up is card games. We love just a plain deck of cards to play things like rummy, war, go fish and other games.  We are nerdy so we actually have a Star Wars deck that we use like this and an anime deck like this one that we use a lot.

By far our favorite card game is Munchkin. We have several versions but we keep the Disney version in the camper because it's our daughter's favorite version. Here's a link to it on Amazon.

Next up is board games. We enjoy all the classics like monopoly, sorry, battleship, and such. I found several of these games at Dollar Tree, they are just cardboard but for camping they work fine. Click this link to see what games they have and you can find them at your local store.
Now onto outdoor games. We prefer to spend as much time as possible outdoors when camping. We've got badminton rackets, ball and gloves, bikes and such. We found this really great set of wooden yard dice and love to make up our own games with it. This is the set we have and love it.  The best part is that this set isn't that expensive and comes with a nice bag to carry it all in.

Our most favorite things to do is spend time as a family doing things like hiking and fishing but sometimes it's nice to just relax with a game at the campsite.  It's also nice to have these things in case of rain or extremely hot temperatures.  It's also nice to have an extra set of games to keep with our camping gear at all times instead of trying to pack up games for each trip.  We do pack a different game once in a while just for a change.

We hope this has inspired you to pick up a few new or old games to take with you camping.  What are your favorite games to play either while camping or in your sticks and bricks?  We are always looking for new games and would love for you to comment below some for us to try out.

Make Your Own Pantry for Your RV

Hi friends!   I don't know about your RV, camper, travel trailer or tent but our travel trailer did not come with a pantry or really any convenient place to store our food while traveling.

When we took our travel trailer out for the maiden voyage we packed out food in milk crates for easy transport.  While we were there I decided to stack them to make shelves in the spot where a chair was supposed to be.  It worked out so well I decided to make it a permanent fixture.  Here is what it started out as.

I am fortunate enough that my husband works somewhere where I was able to get these crates for free but you can also purchase them through Amazon by clicking this link - Crates.  Unfortunately for me, the ones I got only came in this ugly dark blue, but you can get these in several different colors to match your décor.

I used zip ties like these found also on Amazon - Zip Ties - it's best to use at least 8" long zip ties and I used several on each crate to make it as secure as I could.  Once I zip tied them all together, I cut the excess off and twisted them around so that there were no sharp edges showing where anyone could get cut or scratched on them.

Once they were all secure and safe I then used spray paint to paint it all to match my RV and make it a bit prettier.

Next I found some cute fabric bins to put in the crates like these......

These fit nearly perfect in the crates and makes it easy to store and find all the items you need while camping.  Again these come in a variety of colors to suit your decoration and color themes in your camper or home.

The plastic containers I actually got from Dollar Tree but you can find them as well on Amazon.  I will be upgrading to these containers over the off season.

I like these and think they would be more durable than the ones from the Dollar Tree, but the ones I have now will work fine for now.

I have not figured out how to secure it upright during travel days but I just lay it down with all the food we need inside it.  It is super easy to set up once we get to the campsite.  If you have any ideas on how I can secure it please leave me a comment below.

Finished Pantry...........

Let me know if this is something you might try.  Do you have issues with having a place to keep your food?  Leave me a comment below on how you store your food without an actual pantry.  I look forward to hearing from you.

See you next time or maybe even out on the road.

Welcome to Rogue One Camping

Hi and welcome to our blog, Rogue One Camping. My name is Angie. We are a family of four who just got our new to us travel trailer this year.  We have always tent camped before and while we enjoyed it we wanted something a bit more comfortable.

We named her "Rogue One".  We are huge Star Wars fans and chose this name because we feel like even though we only go camping once or twice a month we are going rogue, going against the norm or what is expected of us. We also chose one because this is our first camper and so our story begins.

So we took her out on our maiden voyage and loved every second of it. We slept comfortably and if we got too hot we just went inside to cool off.  We found many things out our first time out. Like, there was not much room for food in this camper. Not much in the way of a pantry. There are cabinets but they are in odd locations so made it difficult to get to the food, so I made a pantry out of plastic crates like these milk crates from Amazon.

Look for a later post for me to show you how I did this and what I for next with it.

My goal with this blog is to give you some tips, tricks, hacks and anything else along the way to make your camping adventures more enjoyable whether you are full time, part time, weekend warriors, or tent campers or if you are just thinking about getting started. Camping is a great way to spend quality time with your family and nature. Let's go enjoy our county and God's handiwork, there is so much to explore.

Please comment below if you have any suggestions on future posts.
